Buckle up for fun!

Due to these unsettling times, we are cancelling the Joey Parker Memorial Ride for this year. We hope to see you in 2021. A big thank you to everyone for your support.

The Ride

Joey Parker left a multitude of friends in Cherokee and throughout the Southeast on his final journey. As Mayor of the River Valley Campground, member of the Cherokee Baptist Church and the best friend the elk roaming the Oconaluftee River Valley will ever have, Joey will always be remembered by the smile on his face and his enthusiasm for every day of his life.

Because Joey absolutely loved to ride UTVs and to further his memory, his sisters Myra and Kym instituted a “Memorial Ride” in April of 2017, and hope to continue the ride every year. Not only does the ride further his memory, it is also a fund raising event for a special playground at Cherokee Central Schools. The playground will be for special needs students and named in his honor. Funds are also donated to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s Great Smoky Mountains.

Joey’s ride will leave from the Old Cherokee High School Site, travel through Downtown Cherokee, past Harrah’s Cherokee Casino, then travel through Tribal Reserve Land to a rest stop at the top of the Balsam Mountains at Mile High Campground. After a brief rest, the ride continues back down Tribal Reserve Land and onto Bunches Creek Road, then onto Big Cove Road with a stop at River Valley Campground for a meal and door prizes. After the meal and prizes, you will return to the Old Cherokee High School site via Big Cove Road. Be sure to join our Joey Parker Memorial Facebook Group. We would love to see all your pics from your ride experience.
